The mother-in-law (A socera) - Plot

In the dialectal production of Gigi Zanazzo "La socera" (The mother-in-law) maintains an important role, including satire and misunderstandings typical of the late nineteenth century vaudeville. The story take place in a middle-class home in Rome, where the figure of the mother-in-law stands on all the other characters, with her arrogance, ignorance and ingenuity, mitigated by genuine feelings of maternal love and marriage. The family consists of the father, his wife Camilla and two daughters, one married and another girlfriend. The mother-in-law, full of bitterness against her son-in-law, at the beginning of the profession of lawyer, is convinced to have discovered his extra marital affair and wants to catch him and then to break off the marriage of his daughter. Everyone is forced to act under the will of lady Camilla, proud of her plebeian origins. The unpredictability of the facts, the colorful language and rhythm make the plot fast and interesting, according to the wishes of the Author ...
